spring has sprung... and my sweeties

Spring has sprung here in Georgia! The flowers are blooming and I've seem bulb flowers peeking up here and there. The down side is that seasonal allergies are starting to flare up and my van is slowly  being covered with a thick coat of yellow pollen (ew!) We just turned out clocks forward for Daylight Savings Time (I am so not a fan of time changes) loosing an hour in the morning has majorly messed me up. We missed the bus twice this week! I am so ready for spring break.

On the home front - Eli has learned to crawl! He's not a full hands-and-knees crawler yet, but he can scoot mighty-fast. He has already mastered the art of turning the Xbox on and off and opening the disc tray. Oh joy. Not even eight months and he's already trying to play video games (ha)

Josiah has also stepped up his homeschooling work. We've started doing a few pages in his workbooks every week, we're practicing writing and reading and I'm really happy with his progress. He's only 4 so there's no pressure. We work on this stuff mostly just to give him something stimulating to do. Because of his late birthday he still has an entire year left before he can go to school - but I'd rather he go later than earlier. Boys can have such a hard time with the sitting-still and staying on task thing.

The girls are doing well in school too - Katie-Abigail has had that "aha" moment with reading and writing when  it's not constantly a struggle for her. Emma just finished a project on Cesar Chavez - I'll have to post a video f her practicing her presentation - this girl has mad public speaking skills. Beth is in love with mythology, especially Egyptian & Greek, it's been really entertaining hearing her talk about Greek gods & goddesses in the present tense. She loved the Percy Jackson series of books, I think that's what got her interested in it.

Photography linkup: "home"

There are some things in life that are overrated. Re-heated pizza (cold pizza rocks), having a super-productive day (I'm saying this sarcastically... but only a little)  There are some things in life, however, that are not. A good night's sleep would be at the top of that list. Another would be a clean, tidy Living Room. So not over-rated. I'm so happy that mine is finally clean.

Thank you for linking your photos up here - it's really nice seeing what is going on in your lives and watching y'all grow in your photography skills. You can link up using the form below. Please remember to use the url of your blog post not just your blog url. If you link up a link back is appreciated Do that by copying the code to my button and pasting it in your blog post (in your html editor) or by adding a text link. Please don't link up your blog post if it is not photography related, just because it has a picture in it. (If you don't know what I'm talking about - I'm not talking to you). This is not a place to build your blog traffic this is  a place to build your community. I've made  so many great friends by participating in link-ups like this. Please take the time to visit some of the other participants, introduce yourself and follow their blog and follow them on twitter/facebook/google+ and gain a new online friend. At minimum please take the time to leave a comment on at least two other blogs in the link up. </rant> ;) The theme this week, if you're into that kind of thing, is home. What does your home look like?

Weekend Instagram dump

I can't think of a day when I've been more happy about a weekend in awhile. Yesterday my girls had their Boosterthon Fun Run at school, I spent nearly the whole day at their school with my boys in tow - so exhausting, but fun! Now I've got tween pop songs stuck in my head though. The girls came home saying it was the best day ever. I nearly fell asleep on the couch waiting for the hubs to come home. I let the kids have a "sleepover" so all of the girls slept in the same room, mostly all on the floor, they were seriously wound up and didn't fall asleep until nearly eleven.  So this morning they weren't up at the crack of dawn like usual, it was so nice to wake up with Eli and while my early birds played quietly together on the couch I got my coffee and enjoyed a couple minutes of peace and quiet. Just the kind of weekend morning I love. In a few hours we're going to the Library (hopefully before any major rain comes through in the wake of the awful tornadoes that have ravaged some of our neighbor states) and then we're going to conquer our personal Mt. Everst of laundry that needs to be folded and I hope to mop the kitchen floor. It's been crazy-hard to get everything done lately and I'm hoping that the kiddos will be happy helpers today.

Last Week the kids were home for presidents day so we did a re-do of Valentines Day since I was sick this first time around. Mostly this meant spending all day making a red velvet cheesecake.

coffee on a Friday

I have SO many photos to post, a bunch are still in my camera - maybe I'll have time this weekend? Here's hoping. So here are a few Instagrams of my little guy - who is getting SO big!

Things I've been doing lately...
  • chasing after Eli, who is officially an ankle biter. he scoots around on the floor discovering every tiny little thing, which means constant supervision. He has become a terror in his walker, crashing into Josiah, chasing the dog and trying to explore the trash can. He was my most active baby inside me so I'm not surprised he's one little ball of energy now,
  • feeding Eli - which has been fun. I decided not to give up on my attempt to get him started on solids and finally my persistence has paid off, or we're in the right window of time for him, either way he's eating a tablespoon or two of various pureed vegetables every day (sweet potatoes are his favorite, but we sneak bites of peas and green beans in between) and he also eats about an eighth of a cup of cheerios and a few sweet potato puffs.
  • teaching Josiah how to read... he's really into it now. We started going through some of the books I bought for Beth when I home schooled her - just to give Josiah something to do - and he's already getting pretty good at sounding his words out.

It's Boosterthon fun run at my girl's school today - so I gotta run!

P.S. my Simply Bliss childhood photography class starts on Monday so there is still time to register!!
